Before You Adopt...

Congratulations on Choosing to Rescue! What to Expect When Rescuing from Horn Creek:

At Horn Creek Rescue we pride ourselves in setting our animals up for success in their new homes. When you adopt from us your new animal will be:

  • spayed or neutered
  • microchipped
  • fully vaccinated
  • given a wellness check by our veterinarian with full disclosure of any health issues
  • provided with 6 weeks of training (for select dogs)

If for any reason after adopting you cannot take care of your animal, we require you surrender the animal back to us so we can place them in another good home. If you surrender your animal back to us, you forfeit the adoption fee.

We do not practice first come, first serve adoptions. We are not looking for fast homes, we are looking for the right homes. It is very important to us that both our cats and our dogs end up in the right place so they can live their best lives. Please keep this in mind when you apply!

Financial Responsibility

Though our animals are wellness checked and vaccinated, there may be medical issues that present themselves after adoption. Just like humans, animals require ongoing medical and preventative care. The animal  is adopted "as is" and once released to you, this animal is your financial responsibility. Before you adopt, please understand the potential costs of owning a pet.

Do You Specifically Need a Barn Cat?

Our rescue currently has some cats that are not suitable for indoor living and would make great barn cats. They will still need shelter and warmth, along with food, so before adoption we will need to confirm that they will have those necessities. All of the barn cats are spayed/neutered, vaccinated, and microchipped.

SCHAEFER

Age: 1 y Male

Breed: Pure German Sheperd

Weight: 140  pounds

Coat Length: medium

Description: *A FENCED YARD IS REQUIRED FOR THIS ADOPTION.* *EXPERIENCED SHEPHER OWNER ONLY.* *NO SHARED WAL

Schaefer was dumped in a PetSmart parking lot by a backyard breeder. He is a gentle giant; he just needs a patient, experienced owner to help him get over his over excitement when meeting new people. He currently is fostered with dogs as little as 5 pounds and upwards to his size. He would be the perfect hiking partner.

ZULLIE

Age: 10 m Female

Breed: German Shepherd/Doberman Mix

Weight: 60 pounds

Coat Length: short

Description: *A FENCED YARD IS REQUIRED FOR THIS ADOPTION.*

Zullie and her brother, Dobbie, were backyard bred and surrendered to the rescue because they were not adopted. Zullie is very smart and sweet and will require an experienced owner to help train her. She does great with other dogs and does great in public! She will need basic obedience and potty training. She spent her entire life in a crate.

DOBBIE

Age: 10 m Male

Breed: German Shepherd

Weight: 60 pounds

Coat Length: short

Description: *A FENCED YARD IS REQUIRED FOR THIS ADOPTION.*

Dobbie and his sister, Zullie, were backyard bred and surrendered to the rescue because they were not adopted. Dobbie is extremely intelligent and would thrive with a confident owner. He does great with other dogs. Dobbie was bit in the head by his dad as a puppy so he is missing his eye, but that doesn't stop him!

THEODORE

Age: 1 y Male

Breed: Rottweiler/German Shepherd Mix

Weight: 100 pounds

Coat Length: short

Description: *A FENCED YARD IS REQUIRED FOR THIS ADOPTION.*

Theo is needing his forever home! He was given to the rescue because his owners were breeding and didn't want to take care of him anymore. He is very well behaved and calm mannered. With the proper home and training he would make a great partner.

ELLA

Age: 1.5 y Female

Breed: German Shepherd/Cattle Dog Mix

Weight: 50 pounds

Coat Length: short

Description: *A FENCED YARD IS REQUIRED FOR THIS ADOPTION.*

Ella needs her forever home. She was recently surrendered back to the rescue due to no fault of her own. She is house trained, crate trained, leash trained, and door bell trained to let you know she has to go potty! She does well with children, dogs, and cats with proper introduction. She will require training.

TULLY

Age: 2 y Male

Breed: Red Heeler Mix

Weight: 20 pounds

Coat Length: short

Description: *A FENCED YARD IS REQUIRED FOR THIS ADOPTION.*

Tully was found abandoned in a field in Chowchilla with his siblings. He would do well with dog and cat friends and he would be an amazing hiking partner! He always looks like he is smiling so he will always brighten up your day!

SKITTLES

Age: 10 y Male

Breed: Shih Tzu

Weight: 20 pounds

SPECIAL CONSIDERATIONS: PARTIALLY BLIND

Coat Length: short

Description: *NO CHILDREN.*

Skittles is a very sweet, older dog who needs his forever home.  Skittles is more passive and will require a quiet home with a patient owner. He was severely neglected before being rescued so he is not potty trained and will need a belly band or diapers. He does have a bark, but he becomes calm when he has his person.

CATS & KITTENS

Cats and kittens are adopted much quicker than dogs so sometimes this page is not updated in accordance to what we have in stores. Thank you for your patience. Each location is the PetSmart the cat is currently at if they are not in foster. y = years m = months w = weeks

PLEASE CHECK STORES FOR CATS - ADDRESSES ARE POSTED ABOVE.

Our adoption fees help cover the cost of medical expenses so we can continue to adopt out fully vetted, spayed and neutered animals. *Applications may be denied and in his case there will be no contact from the rescue. If your application was approved, a coordinator will be in contact with you.*
